Value

Value- Light and Dark

When creating a piece of art it is important to place your values in the correct places.
Think about where the light is coming from. This will be the lightest value. Your shadow area will be the darkest.

If we look at this photo of an egg under a lamp we can see the value of the egg is darker than the paper it is sitting on. The paper changes value from light to dark because the light is closer to one side. The highlight on the egg is about the same value as the highlight on the paper. The background with no light is the darkest value. The shadow on the paper casted by the egg and the shadow on the egg are the second darkest value.
